Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene introduced articles of impeachment against Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas for ‘high crimes and misdemeanors’ related to his negligence at the southern border.
The articles introduced Wednesday blast Mayorkas for shunning his oath of office to ‘defend and secure our country and uphold the Constitution’ while engaging in conduct that is ‘incompatible with the laws of the United States.’
Specifically, Mayorkas is accused of the ‘willful admittance’ of illegal migrants, drug and human traffickers, terrorists and deadly fentanyl across the southern border.
In addition, Greene’s articles state that the top border official’s ‘catch-and-release’ policies allow migrants to enter without a strong enforcement mechanism in place to ensure they are processed by the U.S. court system.
Calls for Mayorkas’ impeachment by Republicans has amplified in recent weeks, especially as the end of Title 42 approached.
The impeachment articles say Mayorkas is ‘complicit’ in the ending of Title 42 which has endangered U.S. citizens and made the jobs of border patrol extremely difficult when dealing with an influx of migrants.

A group of GOP senators who traveled down to the Brownsville, Texas, border last week argued for his removal based on the ‘humanitarian crisis’ they witnessed due to the massive influx of migrants crossing into the U.S.
Sens. Roger Marshall, R-Kan., Ted Cruz, R-Texas, Ted Budd, R-N.C., and John Hoeven, R-N.D., all called on Mayorkas to be impeached due to his ‘derelict of duty’ at the border.
Title 42 was enacted in 2020 under former President Trump as a pandemic-era response to quickly remove migrants who crossed illegally into the country.
‘This is absolutely a disaster and humanitarian crisis,’ Marshall said after visiting the border last week, which has been overrun with illegal migrants.
‘The number one threat to our national security is right here in southern Texas all the way to Arizona.’
In the days leading to Title 42’s end, border apprehensions reached about 10,000 per day.
However, since Title 42’s end at midnight Thursday, the number of crossing when down by about 50 percent as as migrants – and smugglers who prey on their status – assess the new Title 8 regulatory regime.
Biden cheered the recent drop, saying over the weekend: ‘They have gone down my hope is that they’ll continue to go down, and we have a lot more work to do.’
Over 6 million people have entered the U.S. illegally since Biden took office, including 1.4 million known ‘gotaways,’ those who entered without apprehension by law enforcement.
Mayorkas is no stranger to having articles of impeachment filed against him.
In 2021, Rep. Andy Biggs, R-Ariz., put forward the first articles of impeachment against the embattled secretary, but they did not go anywhere since the House was led by Democrats at the time.
At the start of 2023, after the GOP took control of the House, Rep. Pat Fallon, R-Texas, also filed the legislation saying the secretary’s ‘slandering’ of border patrol agents during the infamous ‘whipgate’ was one important reason to remove the top border official.
Although the articles were referred to House Judiciary Chairman Jim Jordan, they were never moved forward for a wider vote of the House of Representatives.

‘His willful actions erode our immigration system, undermine border patrol morale, and imperil American national security. He must be removed from office,’ Fallon said at the time.
In response to Fallon’s action, a DHS spokesperson shifted blame onto Republicans.
‘They should come to the table and work on solutions for our broken system and outdated laws, which they have not updated in over 40 years,’ said the spokesperson.
Last week, GOP Whip Tom Emmer, R-Minn., said he would support impeachment against Mayorkas. He is the
